How TBN works

6 steps
1

Crawl

TBN-governed crawlers scan public ad libraries (Meta, Google, TikTok) every hour.

2

Detect

AI analysis identifies synthetic performers — AI models, deepfakes, altered faces.

3

Check disclosure

We verify whether the legally required "AI-generated" disclosure is present.

4

Registry lookup

We check whether the content carries a valid TBN compliance certificate.

5

Sign evidence

Findings are cryptographically signed (RSA-PSS-SHA256), timestamped and verifiable.

6

Alert

Registered sites get alerted before undisclosed AI content becomes a fine.

What is NY SB8420-A and how does it affect advertisers?

New York Senate Bill SB8420-A requires advertisers to conspicuously disclose when an advertisement features an AI-generated synthetic performer. It applies to any ad distributed in New York State and takes effect June 9, 2026. Violations carry fines of $1,000 for a first offence and $5,000 for each subsequent offence, enforced by the New York Attorney General with a private right of action. Brands, agencies and creators publishing ads in New York must verify their content before distribution.

What is California SB942, the AI Transparency Act?

California SB942 becomes effective August 2, 2026 (delayed from January 1, 2026 by AB 853). It requires large generative AI providers with more than one million monthly users to offer free AI detection tools, embed provenance data in AI-generated content, and provide clear disclosure options. AI-generated images, video and audio must carry watermarks and metadata showing their origin. Companies using AI-generated content in California should ensure proper provenance tracking and disclosure.

What is the EU AI Act Article 50 transparency requirement?

Article 50 of the EU AI Act establishes transparency obligations across all 27 member states. Deployers of AI systems that generate or manipulate image, audio or video content constituting a deepfake must disclose that the content is artificially generated, and providers must implement machine-readable marks that allow synthetic content to be detected. It applies to any AI system deployed in the EU regardless of where the provider is based.

What is a synthetic performer?

A synthetic performer is any AI-generated or AI-altered media that creates the impression of a human who is not an identifiable real person. This includes AI-generated models in product photography, AI spokespersons in video ads, deepfake faces, AI influencers, and digitally altered human appearances in commercial content. If a person in your advertisement was created or significantly altered by AI, it likely contains a synthetic performer under the law.

How do I check if my advertising is compliant?

Enter your website domain in the checker above to see whether your site is registered and continuously monitored by TBN. To check a specific image, use the free scanner — it detects AI-generated performers, verifies whether the required disclosure is present, and returns a cryptographically signed result you can keep as proof of due diligence.

Why register my website for monitoring?

Registration is free. Once your site is on the TBN watchlist, our crawler checks your advertising content on a schedule and alerts you when new uncertified AI content appears — giving you a grace period to add disclosure or certify before it becomes a public violation or a fine. It's the difference between finding out from us and finding out from a regulator.
